Finishing Strong

Hey Fed Hock! Editor in Chief here. We here at LLN, myself especially, wanted to give one final cheer to the year 2022-23. We've accomplished a lot as a school, from our basketball team's win streak, to a strong opening year for our new principal, Mr. Amlin, to a successful expansion of this very news station! It's been a busy, but rewarding year for Federal Hocking, as I'm sure you all can agree. And as we leave for the summer, we can look back on many aspects of this year with a smile. We're anticipating a few changes in the…

Basim Signs with Rio Grande

Basim Signs with Rio Grande

On Tuesday May 9, 2023, Federal Hocking High School senior, Mia Basim, signed her letter of intent with the University of Rio Grande, a private university in Rio Grande, Ohio. Rio Grande recognized Mia’s golfing skills and granted her a scholarship.  Do you remember when Covid hit, school was closed and events were canceled? When most sports were postponed, including softball which Mia and her friends played, instead of doing nothing all season they joined the only open season sport left–golf.  They started working and practicing their skills. Mia told me that golf was easy to understand, but hard to…

Some Of The Rarest Video Games Ever Made

Some Of The Rarest Video Games Ever Made

By Casey Hendrickson Video games have a special place in a lot of people's hearts but there are some games that we can't get ahold of. Some games can range from $2 to $50 to $1,000 to $5,000 and most people will never be able to play them because of the obscurity, limited counts, and even with them being lost to time. I'm going to be talking about some video games that are rarer than you think.   The Flintstones Surprise At Dinosaur Peak was a Blockbuster exclusive NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) rental game that was never supposed to be…

What’s New in the Student Handbook?

What’s New in the Student Handbook?

By Timothy Zimmerman The new school year brings new adjustments to the student handbook. In the past, rules banning phones, hoods, hats, carrying around backpacks, etc. have faced criticism from Federal Hocking students. Each of these rules have had adjustments made to them in the new handbook. Cellphones A huge rule that has been controversial ever since it was introduced, was the banning of students to use cell phones during the school day. This year, it has been changed so that high school students are now allowed to use their phones during their free period, and in class if permitted…

This meeting should not last more than 30 minutes, but is an important part of planning this opportunity for our Lancer freshmen.

Music for Everyone!

Music for Everyone!

By Sydney Knisley The Federal Valley Resource Center in Stewart, Ohio is a beautiful building where people can hold gatherings and learn the arts, history, education, and other activities. It's a great place for kids and families to attend, but I would like to focus on the music aspect of this building. When you first walk into one of the first rooms on the left, they have a music library. And it is a blessing in disguise. The music library gives out free lessons for whatever interests you, and if you don't have an instrument? Well, you can ‘rent’  one…

Community Supports Ukraine

Community Supports Ukraine

By Michael Nelson While we sit safe in our homes, Ukrainians have been displaced or forced from theirs’. The majority of survivors have chosen to seek refuge in surrounding countries. This mass exodus is a result of the Russian military’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. Since the start of the war, in February 2022, early estimates report that more than 4.6 million refugees have left Ukraine. As of April 6, 2022, 6.5 million citizens have been displaced from their own homes to seek refuge in other parts of Ukraine-also being forced to leave their homes. The people leaving the country have…

The Return of Community Service Day

The Return of Community Service Day

By Joey Sampson What is Community Service day? Community Service day is, well, pretty self explanatory. The whole school goes around the community of Athens County and we give back to the community. Some of you might not know what community service day is because our school hasn't done it in almost 3 years because of Covid, and now we are finally going out to serve our community once again. Community service day might sound really boring or like a chore, but it's not as boring as it might sound. You might just think you would go around and pick…
