Mandatory Parent Meeting for Freshman Trip

Mandatory Parent Meeting for Freshman Trip

There will be an opportunity for an overnight 9th grade trip in the spring.  If your teenager is interested in attending, a parent or guardian must attend a mandatory meeting on Monday, October 10th at 7:30 p.m. in the FH auditorium.  We will cover information about the trip itinerary,  when the deposit is due to secure a spot, costs, fundraising opportunities, the required steps for students who take prescription medicines, and answer any questions you have. This meeting should not last more than 30 minutes, but is an important part of planning this opportunity for our Lancer freshmen.

Music for Everyone!

Music for Everyone!

By Sydney Knisley The Federal Valley Resource Center in Stewart, Ohio is a beautiful building where people can hold gatherings and learn the arts, history, education, and other activities. It's a great place for kids and families to attend, but I would like to focus on the music aspect of this building. When you first walk into one of the first rooms on the left, they have a music library. And it is a blessing in disguise. The music library gives out free lessons for whatever interests you, and if you don't have an instrument? Well, you can ‘rent’  one…

Community Supports Ukraine

Community Supports Ukraine

By Michael Nelson While we sit safe in our homes, Ukrainians have been displaced or forced from theirs’. The majority of survivors have chosen to seek refuge in surrounding countries. This mass exodus is a result of the Russian military’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. Since the start of the war, in February 2022, early estimates report that more than 4.6 million refugees have left Ukraine. As of April 6, 2022, 6.5 million citizens have been displaced from their own homes to seek refuge in other parts of Ukraine-also being forced to leave their homes. The people leaving the country have…

The Return of Community Service Day

The Return of Community Service Day

By Joey Sampson What is Community Service day? Community Service day is, well, pretty self explanatory. The whole school goes around the community of Athens County and we give back to the community. Some of you might not know what community service day is because our school hasn't done it in almost 3 years because of Covid, and now we are finally going out to serve our community once again. Community service day might sound really boring or like a chore, but it's not as boring as it might sound. You might just think you would go around and pick…

Feeding A School

Feeding A School

By Adam McKnight While many believe that feeding a school is a typically easy job, there is a lot that actually goes into it. From supply chain issues to meeting dietary and Department of Education guidelines, it is not as easy as it is cracked up to be. At Federal Hocking High School and Middle School, Amanda McKnight, Tausha Adams, and Mike Bellar work everyday to make sure that the students get the food they need. As they come into the school, Mike and Tausha start by preheating all of the ovens. Followed by checking the temperature on the walk-in…

3DI Part 1: The Beginning

3DI Part 1: The Beginning

By: Alex Jenkins Before COVID hit, students were allowed to freely play games on the desktop computers in tech teacher Sonja Coble’s classroom. Here is how it worked: A student (usually junior/senior HS student) would host the game server on their computer. Then that student would shout out the server’s ip address for the other students to connect to that server and play. (And sometimes Coble would join in as well!) The games normally played were Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Team Fortress 2, and very rarely Counter-Strike: Source. “I was glad we started these clubs as they give students another place…

2022 Spring Senior Retreat

2022 Spring Senior Retreat

By Cora Roman On Friday, March 4th, the Senior Class of 2022 took a field trip to the Alden Liberty to work on their portfolios. Many of us may have heard the words ‘portfolio’ and ‘defense’ thrown around, but what are our teachers really talking about when they bring these topics up? A senior portfolio typically includes examples of high-quality schoolwork, athletic proficiency, dramatic or public performances, advanced science projects, and community service. A portfolio is meant to be a collection of your “best hits” from high school, and it’s completely acceptable to show off a bit because you’ll be…
