New To Teaching

By Ahmani Rufat

Have you ever heard of Emma Harter? If you haven’t, it’s probably because she is new to teaching. You will see Harter around the halls mostly in the 7th grade hallway. She is a history teacher. She was a student teacher for Rebecca Castelino and learned a lot of stuff from helping teach with Castelino.

Harter, at a young age, wanted to be working with kids and both of her parents are teachers. When working as a student teacher, Harter got to teach first hand as Castelino’s student teacher. Harter said she wouldn’t be here without Castelino. Castelino went to teach 6th grade for Harter to teach 7th grade. Harter says that in the beginning, teaching was hard; however, she’s getting used to it.

“A new challenge brings new opportunities”

Some of Harter’s favorite things are listening to music outside. While she loves teaching, she also likes a change of scenery in the outdoors. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and baking. She loves gardening.  When it comes to cuisine, she is a fan of Mexican and Asian foods, potato chips, popcorn and anything crunchy.

Before she was a teacher, she was a soccer coach. As a kid she was on a travel team for a soccer team. Harter is more of a sports person than a sitting-around person. She is a wonderful addition to the FHMS staff.
