She started off as a student teacher, then went to a high school teacher, and is now teaching 8th grade. Torrence’s love for teaching grew in 7th grade when her 7th grade math teacher introduced algebra to her. Torrences love for math grew when she was 12 years old. Her inspiration is her middle school math teacher Mrs. Delong. Torrence said the Federal Hocking Middle School principal, Sonya White, reminds her a lot about Delong, so White has all of Torrence’s respect.
Torrence has been happily married for 37 years. She has three boys, and three grandchildren. Their ages are seven years, eight months, and 19 months. Torrence loves her grandchildren. She hangs out with them whenever she can and facetimes them anytime she gets the chances as well.
“Grandmother life rocks!” Torrence claimed.
Torrence has a lot of fun interests. She loves to travel, read, craft, then talk to her grand kids some more. Torrence has some big hopes and dreams, such as seeing her 8th grade crew mature some more before the end of the school year. She also wants to stay healthy enough to teach for at least five more years. Torrence has always had a love for helping others, through elementary, middle school, and high school, Torrence was an active teen, she was always doing stuff. She played basketball, softball, and volleyball. She ran track for a year, and she cheered for a year. Torrence did drama, and something with a student council. She was all over the place.
Torrence said the highlight of teaching is seeing a kid become successful in both school, and in life. She claims that she enjoys teaching all her students.
“Teachers don’t have favorites; some kids do bring us joy more than others.”
