Working at a Corporate Restaurant in Athens, OH

Have you ever thought about working at a corporate “chain” restaurant? I worked at a restaurant like this for a year. I actually enjoyed working there. Like many jobs, most of my coworkers were great, although a few wouldn’t do their job. This meant someone else had to do their job on top of their own.  Depending on what position you work in, you could make a decent amount of money. Hosting you made a bit more than $4 an hour but you also got tip share, so in reality you were making more than $8 an hour. Working in…

Self-Portrait by Darius Pierce

Self-Portrait by Darius Pierce

I aimed to create a composition on my current emotion. To better elaborate, this artwork particularly was created in the purgatory of fall. Where we return to school, but the swing of things just isn’t back. Furthermore, this artwork was the only representation of our school, and only one of two in our region, to be selected for exhibition in the Ohio Statehouse.

Letter To The Editor – From Adam McKnight

Letter To The Editor – From Adam McKnight

To whomever it may concern, As a sophomore who plans to stay at Federal Hocking rather than go to Tri-County, I believe switching to 40-minute class periods would cause more problems than solutions. The main reason cited in the class meetings for the switch is test scores, specifically in our math department. Switching to a 40-minute class time would reduce the amount of instruction time in the class. There is a requirement that there are at least 180 school days for students, and in an 80-minute class time, you would have about 70 minutes of instruction, given 5 minutes…

What is Buhurt?

What is Buhurt?

By Garrett Vorisek The name Buhurt probably doesn’t mean anything to you, or the annual event called Battle of the Nations. If so then have no fear, this article will bring you up to speed about this thrilling sport involving menacing medieval armor and weaponry. The true start of medieval style fighting for sport was actually devised in the 1200’s, but was soon phased out around 1340. This was because it was against the church's rules and was considered sinful. Another reason was because people just got bored of watching others beat the tar out of each other for fun.…

The Life Of A Federal Hocking Bus Driver

The Life Of A Federal Hocking Bus Driver

By Haley K. You may think that our bus drivers have it easy, I mean all they have to do is pick kids up and drop them off right? Wrong! First of all, to even become a bus driver you have to take a written test which includes information on common knowledge, air breaks, and passengers. After passing that portion you have to go over the bus, which means remembering every part of the bus, as well as, doing an air break test in under 30 minutes. To even begin this process, they must pass a drug test, take a…
