We all have that one student in our school that studies during free time and always goes above and beyond for everything. Federal Hocking High School has plenty of them, one being Mason Bobo. Bobo moved to FHHS for his sophomore year and he is now a junior. Before coming to FHHS, Bobo attended Athens High School. Working hard in school is nothing new for him as he has worked extremely hard in school for his whole life.
This year, Bobo believes that the class he does the best in is math. He is taking Algebra 2 with Paul Golter. The class that Bobo struggles with the most is Spanish class with Eric Tabler. Many teachers and staff absolutely love having Bobo in their presence, one of them being: Robin Hawk. This year is Bobo’s second year in Hawk’s class. He has been in her English Language Arts 10 and now her English Language Arts 11. Hawk believes that Bobo is a very dedicated learner. He is outgoing in the classroom and enthusiastic about gaining knowledge. He is a very strong writer because he pays close attention to detail and he knows how to use his internal voice which makes it easier for him to communicate his ideas through writing. Almost every day Hawk and Bobo are conferencing about education. Hawk says that he is always going above and beyond.
“In terms of Mason’s overachieving nature, he never settles for less. He has a hyper-awareness of how his current learning can affect his future. Therefore, his focus on being college ready can create angst. He is so receptive to redirection, so when I notice that he is extremely stressed we have a discussion. Mason is a model student and I always look forward to seeing him each day.”
Even with the stress, he powers through and does extremely well in class. Bobo has set many goals for himself throughout the years. He has a goal to be on the honor roll; get honors diploma; be in the national honor society; receive all A’s; and get a final gpa of 4.0.
After graduating, Bobo plans to attend Ohio University or The Ohio State University to major in law for the first four years of college and then for the last four years he plans to attend New York University.
There are three main things that help Bobo stay motivated to work so hard: money, family, and gossip that comes with being a lawyer.
“I am so excited for all the gossip when I become a lawyer because I know it gets so juicy.”
Advice that Bobo has for the people that have a hard time with staying motivated to do their work is to think about the end result. He believes that it helps to think about what will come from it. You will only receive things if you put in the work.
“The harder you work in life, the closer to success you’ll get, and the more money you’ll get.”
Working hard does have a major effect on him but that doesn’t stop him from trying his absolute hardest in everything that comes his way.
He is truly Stressed for Success.
