The Awesome Jessica Allen

By: Paige Amlin and Ava Johnson

Kind, caring, helpful, and funny: these are four words to describe Jessica Allen.

Allen is the secretary at Federal Hocking High School; she has been working here for 24 years, and doesn’t plan on leaving anytime soon.

Allen is a mother of two daughters, Cynthia and Dominique. She also has a fiancé. She has two dogs, one Boston terrier and a pug mix, and the other is a bulldog mix. She also has a cat.

In her free time she likes to spend time with her family and just chill. She enjoys going outside and feeding animals; she loves animals a lot.

When Allen first got her administrative support job at FH, it was 2001. She had gone to school at FH and graduated in 1997. Allen went to Tri County and studied computer science. After she graduated high school, she decided she would attend Hocking College.

“I was there for about a month and decided it just wasn’t for me. ”

After Allen left college, she was looking for a job and her father had been working with the school for a long long time. Her father had then informed her that there was a job opening at FH and so she applied. She later got the job, and she hasn’t stopped since then.

Allen loves her job so much and she doesn’t plan on ever leaving unless it’s to retire. Allen loves helping the kids and helping out the school. She will help no matter what, from dumpster diving for retainers to taking bats outside and saving them. If you ever wonder why she wanted to be a secretary, it’s because she loves to help out. She also loves how everyday is different.

“There is never a day that is the same.”

Allen has never expressed interest in leaving, and she never plans to. One reason she never wants to leave is because she loves the high school environment and enjoys getting to meet new students and talk to old ones. She also doesn’t want to change jobs because she doesn’t want to have to relearn everything.

It didn’t take Allen too long to get used to working at a high school because she has two daughters as it is and it was easy for her. She loves going to work and seeing co-workers. Her best friends on the staff are Emma Wright and Kelly Roberts.

“I would not be able to function without her, it would be impossible. I am only one person and Jess helps out with everything,”  Wright said.

Allen has had many good experiences and memories here. One memory she has here though was when a fellow student had passed away.

“Everyone had come together, and supported each other and the family and it was just so magical. ”

If you ever see Allen just remember that she is here for you and she enjoys talking to the students and helping. She can also always make you laugh and brighten up your day. So if you see her, don’t be scared to go into the office and say hi or even start up a conversation.
