From Virginia to India to Fed Hock Halls

 By: Alicia Lyons

Compassionate, quiet, and happy are three words to describe a fabulous  Federal Hocking Local teacher Emily Boyer. Boyer graduated from Franklin County High School in Virginia. Later she went to Christopher New Port College in Virginia. Boyer participated in Soccer and Latin in high school. Boyer had a few jobs in high school which included her being a tutor, and a grounds keeper.

Boyer came to Federal Hocking because she lived in the area. Before coming to Federal Hocking she actually was working at Tri County Career Center. She was an adult director. She never had a vision on what she would be doing in her life.

“I just kind of went with the flow,” Boyer stated.

Her favorite job she has had would be landscaping because she likes outside or water restoration.

Boyer was born in 1980 on October 23rd. She was born in Kettering, Ohio. Her  family is small; she has a daughter who is fifteen years old. Her name is Charlie. She also has a husband. His name is Jeff. Boyer and her family never really have had family traditions.

Boyer considers herself a homebody.

“I like to be home to relax, it’s very calm.”

Her biggest fear is mother nature.

“It’s unpredictable. You never know what could happen.”

Her favorite food would have to be pizza.

“You can eat it with anything.”

As for music, she likes 2000s R&B.

“I don’t really have a favorite. I listen to everything.” But she likes Usher a lot.

Her personal hopes and dreams would be peace and people to be happy and also to be financially secure. Her idol is her great grandmother because she was very calm, very open to everything, and non judgemental. She would have to pick Christmas to be her favorite holiday.

“ I like all the lights and decorations.”

Boyer has two pets; they are two cats. Their names are Alice and Nugget. Her favorite flower is a Queen Ann Lace because they are very pretty.

“They grow wild, dainty, and pretty.”

Her favorite place she has been would be Varnarsi India. Her dream place she could go would have to be Iceland.

Boyer’s favorite thing to do on vacation is to sit and hangout with the locals.

“I would take a nap after a long flight and eat.”

She travels by herself because it gives her time to relax and to think. It gives me time to reset and it humbles me.”

If she could live somewhere in the world it would be Japan because it is very calm and beautiful from her experience. If she were to live in Japan she would visit Tokyo and head up north. Her favorite color is purple. She has always liked the color but a certain kind of purple is more of a plum.

Science Teacher Ben Warner works with her.  He thinks highly of Boyer and acknowledges the benefit of her living with a teen.

“She’s a strong educator and she is a mom.”

Her daughter attends school at Federal Hocking and She is a ninth grader. Although Charlie doesn’t have her mother as of right now she thinks she will in the future since our school is small. Charlie described her mom in three words: “amazing, kind, and funny.”

Students and staff at FH hope Boyer makes the Lancer halls her second home for many years to come.
