The Federal Hocking team revolves around their four coaches and 30 players. Federal Hocking didn’t have a football team for three years from 2020-2023, until we received news that we were going to have a new coach.
In 2023 Cody Mason arrived. Mason has been coaching for two years now, but he has been helping with football since he was in 7th grade. Mason went to Ohio University for college. He came to Federal Hocking High School one year ago when he got the teaching position as a Physical Education teacher. He teaches 6th-12th grade and he also teaches health class. He plans on staying at FH for a long time, but he also has future plans.
“It depends on where my life takes me, because I want to become the athletic director.
Coaching gym class with 6th-12th graders is very fun and he has fun teaching then. That’s how he got to have a great bond with his players, including the seniors: Dylan Scott, Lucas Crow, Levi Christopher, Tre Scott, Ty Walker, and Johnny Campanaro.
For the boys football isn’t just a sport; they dedicate most of the summer and the entire year to get better. From weight lifting to running plays, the boys dedicate all their hard work to the team and the Federal Hocking football program. For some of the boys, they love it and they plan on playing college or pro; but others do not have the same idea.
Ty Walker has been playing for seven years.
“My mom convinced me to try out for the football team when I was in second grade because my cousin was on the team.”
Walker plans on playing college football and if he is able to; he wants to go pro.
Tre Scott has been playing for a year now. Scott loves all of his teammates and he says that the best teammate is probably Gabe Bray or Brody Rutter, depending on the day.
“My favorite memory was when we got our first technical win and everyone was happy!”
Scott says when he gets older I might want to play college football.
Lucas Crow has been playing football for 10 years. He first started playing when Gale Lewis influenced Crow to play. Crow’s favorite football memory was when Jr Slaughbaugh almost got a touchdown last year. When I had asked Crow if he had planned on playing college or pro football he had said “ Heck no! ”
Dylan Scott has been playing for two years now. He first started playing because Coach Mason had pressured him to. One of Dylan’s favorite memories is when Elijah, his younger head topped Neil. When Scott Graduates he does not plan on playing college or pro football.
Levi Christopher has been playing football for eight years. He first started playing when he was 10 years old. Head started playing because when he was younger his uncle had influenced him to play. When Christopher graduates he does not plan on playing college or pro football.
Johnny Campanaro has been playing football for five years. Campanaro started playing at the age of 12.
He was influenced by seeing that he can hit people for a sport.
“Millersport when I took that one kid’s helmet off.”
That is Johnny’s favorite memory. When Campanaro graduates, he plans on playing college and pro football.
For the graduating seniors the team will miss them, but for sure this off season the boys are going to grind and grind to be the best team that we can possibly be. And to the seniors, you guys will be greatly appreciated and significantly missed. Good luck to our football team next year.
