From Flight School to High School

Evin Stotts is a three-year staff member at Federal Hocking High School. In the past year and a half that he has worked here, he has done college and career readiness. This year Stotts moved to a different job: math intervention specialist. If he were not doing the job that he is now, Stotts believes that he would still be doing what he did last year.

Stotts was born in Athens, OH in January of 1996. He grew up in Nelsonville, OH until around third or fourth grade. Now, he still lives in Logan, OH with his girlfriend and dog.

When Stotts was in third grade, he was hit by a car. It was over the summer and he and his father had just gotten back from a four-wheeler ride. Once they got back, Stotts told his father that he was going on a bike ride. He had just left his house and he started to go down a hill that was by his house. Stotts said that it was just unfortunate timing. A car just happened to run a stop sign and met Stotts on his bike. After he was hit, his parents took him to the hospital that used to be in Nelsonville. At the hospital, they just gave him a CT scan to check out his head because there was a big bump on his forehead. Nothing was wrong with Stotts’ head so, the Nelsonville hospital told his parents that he was fine. Stotts’ parents did not believe that report because their son had just got hit by a car; there was no way everything was fine. After this, Stotts and his parents headed to Children’s in Columbus. When they got to Children’s, they did another CT scan and his head was indeed fine but his knee was broken. They decided that they would do a procedure to remove the blood in Stotts’ knee to reduce swelling and relieve pressure. After the procedure, Stotts’ parents were informed that he would be wearing a cast which went from right above his toes all the way up to his hips because they ended up needing to put screws in his knee to replace a broken bone.

“When I got hit by a car, we kinda just packed up and moved to Logan out of nowhere.”

Even though Stotts moved in elementary school, he still attended Nelsonville-York. During school Stotts played multiple sports such as: basketball, football, and baseball. He went to Nelsonville-York all throughout school and graduated from there. He always thought he wanted to be a pilot so that is what he set out to do.

“I did really think I wanted to do what I’m doing, I have always wanted to be a pilot.”

After high school, Stotts attended Ohio University to be a pilot. He went for aviation management. However, he did not follow through with this career in life.

Stotts decided to work in schools with his desire to help people. He wanted to make a difference in people’s lives and he felt as though this job could help him succeed at that.

“What drove me to work in schools was the thought of helping people out. I just want to give back to the community in any way I can.”

Now, Stotts is the FHHS math intervention specialist. Before this job, he had plenty of others. When he was in high school, Stotts and his friend mowed yards. He worked for his friend’s family construction business in the summers, and also at the city pool. He had a couple jobs on campus at OU, and he worked in a convenience store in college. He also worked in the financial aid office at OU. Apart from work, Stotts enjoys golfing, hiking, camping, and just being outdoors.
