Isaac Miller, Class of ’17

I am graduating from Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. I started college undecided but changed my major at the end of my second year. One of the highlights of my time at OHIO has been working for University Communications and Marketing (UCM), the university’s official communications department. I often write stories to advertise events, highlight achievements of students and/or faculty, and highlight alumni. These stories are published to the OHIO News site and also shared to the University’s social media accounts occasionally. I was also the design director of Southeast Ohio Magazine for my journalism capstone class. This job required me to oversee the design and creative strategy of the 48-page magazine. Being in such a prestigious program has pushed me to be a better student and a better person in general.

Back to my time during Fed Hock, I was an avid runner in high school who was a part of the 2017 TVC Hocking runner-up boys track team and the individual 3200-meter champion. Also, I wrote stories for The Shield which helped lead to my decision to pursue journalism.

Aside from school, I am an active volunteer on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway in Nelsonville. I am a conductor and also oversee the railroads newsletter and social media pages. I should mention that I started with the railroad via my senior project.
